V2_Archive research

With documentation of over twenty years of electronic media art and media art events, V2_Archive has functioned as a test bed for research on ways of documenting and preserving media art activities.

From Spring 2003 to Spring 2004, V2_Archive has been conducting research on the issue of documentation aspects of the preservation of electronic art activities, in other words Capturing Unstable Media. The final results of this research project were presented on Thursday 4 March 2004 at V2_.

Capturing Unstable Media has resulted in a series of recommendations, including documentation guidelines and a formal model (ontology) to describe the activities in electronic art in several levels of detail. The project has been supported by Mondriaan Foundation and Daniel Langlois Foundation. A group of experts from Dutch archives, research institutes and cultural heritage organizations have assisted the research through an advisory board. The final results are now summarized and available on the official project's website.
